My name is Michael Henry, a Mayo man living in Dublin for over thirty years.
I have noted the concerns and sporting realities of both rural and urban Ireland, especially where hurling and football are concerned.
My present club, St. Enda',s has seen four of my children play with underage teams. G.A.A. remodelling is an issue or even perhaps a passion, that has kept me occupied for many years and since some of my earlier suggestions, for example, making greater use of Saturdays, the addition of new tournaments (trophies) now called Christy Ring, Nicky Rackard and Tommy Murphy, giving a  second chance to teams in the Championship, the notion of new"season" tickets have come to pass, I feel that there may be  merit to some of my proposals.
In the overall context I have tried to ensure, as best I can, that each team is presented with opportunities, commensurate with their capabilities but always allowing for that most wonderful of attributes .....improvement and the surprise factor!! It has often been suggested that the "foregone conclusion," where a clear favourite is widely expected to hammer opposition and where little interest is generated in the upcoming contest, is really one of the great drawbacks and weaker points of  all sporting competitions. The great challenge of course is "how do you keep interest, suspense, sparkle, "call it what you will, in such lopsided fixtures and  of course the answer is, "with great difficulty." However this is not to say we should never try. Over time, I would like to reveal my efforts to to weaken, where possible the influence and curb the effect of this "foregone conclusion" factor.
In the case of one team having won or outgrown its section and so now must face a much stronger team,e.g. Dal Riada to Macha, I would suggest that a hammering  is never that  bad for the receiver when you then go back to play your own equals straight afterwards and not left "high and dry" for many weeks (months) to nurse your wounds!
Since the dilemmas, quandaries or problems affecting the Association have developed over the past one hundred and twenty years and instant or quick-fix answers are not ten a penny, then it should be acknowledged that realistic suggestions cannot be of a simplistic nature and will always be under threat of being called"complicated". However I would always make a great distinction between a document that is detailed and complicated and a document that is detailed but thorough.
Whilst many aspects of the Moy Document can be displayed to excellent effect on the Web, nevertheless certain matters simply do not translate so well; be it the Web or the old reliable foolscap. In such instances a personal or verbal explanation would probably produce optimum results.
