Senior Hurling Inter County Championships:
Preliminary Rounds for teams
outside of the Top Twelve  

(To be played from mid-March to mid-June, straight after  first half of NHL).

Dal Riada Competition:

Banba [A] West:  Mayo, Sligo, Roscommon, Longford, Fermanagh, Leitrim

Banba [A] East:  Donegal, Tyrone, Cavan, Monaghan, Armagh, Louth,

Banba [B], [C], [D]:

Fodhla A (North): Derry, Down, Meath, Westmeath

Fodhla A (South): Carlow, Wicklow, Kildare, Kerry

Fodhla B: The second tier players from those counties.

Two-Leg Matches:

Two matches to decide winners (upwards) and losers (downwards).

Modified aggregate score applies.

[ The ultimate aim of all teams will be to progress to the top right hand corner eventually.]

Macha Teams:

The Top Twelve teams [Macha] play full rounds only.

Dal Riada teams may have Intercalated Rounds [ICR]; they have fewer inter club fixtures to consider and may use those extra games to improve their counties’ standards.

Match and Round Numbering:

In the accompanying charts , Macha and Dal Riada, the round or match numbers appear above the actual round or match played.

 

[There shall be no replays before All-Ireland Semi- Finals.

In this system, winners [A] shall be assigned the upper position, while losers [B] shall occupy the lower one.

No match played:

Results decided by casting lots. Again, winners [A] go upwards and losers [B] go downwards.

Here, (8) represents the numbers of teams involved in the round in question.
